The City Central Local Area Command is located within the council boundaries of the Sydney City Council and the South Sydney Council. The City Central Local Area Command is a compact 3.2 sq km within the Central Metropolitan Region.

City Central Local Area Command consists of high rise office blocks, high rise residential units and free hold residences, with some areas given over to entertainment (Entertainment Centre, Darling Harbour, Hyde Park and the Sydney Casino). The city boasts one of the tallest buildings in Australia, being the World Towers and two of the tallest residential buildings, being, The Peak situated above Paddys Markets Haymarket which is over 153m tall and the Century Tower which is 52 Storeys (182m tall). The commercial structure of the Local Area Command is such that most of the Commands population consists of professional persons, administrators, store persons and office workers, together with significant numbers of trade and labour persons. Additionaly there are numerous international Hotels and Motels employing staff engaged in the hospitality industry.

City of Sydney Council estimates that City Central and the Rocks LACs share some 750,000 visitors, shoppers, residents and workers daily.

The City Central LAC has a comparatively small residential population according to official census data current estimate (50,000 for 2006). However in recent times numerous high rise residential and short/medium term accommodation developments provide a unique ‘overnight’ residential population across the CBD probably in excess of 100,000 people on any given day.

The City has progressively filled most of the ‘holes in ground’ and development now focuses on new for old. For example the World Square site bounded by George, Liverpool, Goulburn and Pitt Streets. This development opened in the past 12 months, consists of a 70 story residential complex (3000 residents), a 44 story office building (5,000 workers), a 3 story retail complex with 90 outlets (some opened 24 x7) 600 car parking spaces, 1 Hotel and nightclub with a second Hotel to open in the near future.

This is literally a small suburb or country town placed on the footprint of one City block.

The above address is for the City Central Police Station. There are two police stations within this LAC.
